Swatches

I found this very pretty baby yarn in my stash a few days ago and I’ve been wondering what I could possibly knit with it. It’s Bernat Baby Coordinates Chunky in plushy purple, which doesn’t seem to be available on-line (how long have I had this yarn?). I’ve been trying to come up with/design a pattern; I tried cables, lace (or lace-like) and detailed purls and knit. However, none of it suited the yarn. Both the yarn and the pattern seem to be competing for attention. So I had to decide if I wanted the pattern OR the yarn to be the main focus. In this case is was kind of simple. The yarn is soft and plushy (as the name implies) and it’s gorgeous in its own right. I would have to use a simple stitch to get the most out of this yarn. I created three swatches to help me decide which one was best. The three stitches/patterns I used are: a garter stitch, a stockinette stitch, and a seed stitch.

Garter Stitch, Swatch, Knit
Gather Stitch
Stockinette Stitch, Knit, Blanket
Stockinette Stitch
Seed Stitch, Knit, Knitting,
Seed Stitch

I’m leaning towards the garter stitch. The garter stitch swatch doesn’t have even stitches because I was practicing knitting with my left hand :), it will look much more even when I knit the finished blanket. The stockinette shows a lot of imperfections and doesn’t feel as cozy. The seed stitch looks like a jumbled mess of stitches (to me anyway). Hmm, it seems like talking (err writing) it out here has helped me decide.

Which swatch do you like best?
