Stitch Markers

A few months ago I took part in a “Sweet Nothings Swap” for Valentine’s Day. My partner had sent me a bunch of cute little knitting accessories including adorable stitch markers (one was a pretzel and another was a bag of popcorn). These got me thinking; I hate the look of the plastic stitch markers that I’m currently using. I wanted something prettier, something that I would like looking at when I’m knitting and something that makes me happy when I see it. So I decided to create my own stitch markers. I headed to the local big box store and bought myself some solid rings, head pins, pliers (needle nose and wire cutters in one) and assorted beads and I started creating.

I made 12 markers in total, 2 sets of 6. I really love the way they turned out. When I first started making them I was afraid I was going to break the beads or my fingers or everything. I’m not a gentle person (my husband would definitely agree). I’ve broken vases, cups, dishes, Swiffers and not on purpose either. I was placing a vase on the table and broke the bottom off. I must have some ridiculous muscles 🙂 But low and behold all of my fingers and all of my supplies are still in tack.

I am now testing these markers out with my WIPs to ensure they don’t snag the yarn or fall apart. I find that the more I knit using these stitch markers, the happier they make me. They add a touch of class and elegance that you otherwise don’t get with the plastic markers. After I make a couple more sets of these, I will try to make markers that you can open and close. I believe those are just as useful.
