Christmas Stockings

I know Christmas is over and I know we have about 12 months until it’s Christmas again. But I have to talk about these Christmas stockings. I love them.

I started them in 2016 when James was a baby. The idea was that these would be our family stockings that he would use every year. So I made James’ fairly quickly but then I put them aside to work on other projects.

I went back to finish them in 2017, and was able to finish the one that says ‘mom’. Once again, I put them aside and started working on other projects.

Finally I went back to these unfinished stockings in Nov. 2018 and was able to finish the ones for both Dad and Elizabeth.

I chose simpler ones for Mom and Dad because I wanted to get them finished for this Christmas. My plan is to remake the ones for Mom and Dad with a simple fair isle pattern.

The Yarn I used is Lion Brand Vanna’s Choice

The Pattern is Comfort and Joy Stockings by French Press Knits

I love these patterns! They were easy to follow with lots of instructions and charts to follow. It was even easy to modify then slightly ( I didn’t want any garter ridges on the heel). She even includes extra charts if you’d like something different and some blank graph paper for you to create your own.

To write the names on the stockings I chose to crochet them. If I had to do it again, I would use the duplicate stitch that she recommends. My crochet letters look sloppy (I hate when my projects look sloppy) and I’m thinking they might have turned out better had I done the duplicate stitch.

I didn’t use the recommended yarn so my stockings came out larger than the pattern states. It also came out stiffer (this is an assumption – they look stiffer than the stockings in the pattern pictures) which is a result of the thicker yarn that I used. I would like to eventually line them with fabric so toys don’t snag the floats.

What are your favourite Christmas patterns?
